About Dubious Moniker
Dubious Moniker seeks to challenge people when they've become anesthetized by
everyday life while simultaneously providing a much needed break for listeners
who might be stressed out or feeling down. Dubious Moniker sounds like children
of the '80s with crippling A.D.D, 4 beers deep playing Little Feat covers on
borrowed instruments and borrowed time.
The group began when aspiring songwriter Art Bamford started recording several
years ago with musician, producer and friend Timothy O'Connell. In the hopes of
remaining anonymous and not getting thrown into the singer/songwriter bin, Bamford
named the project 'Dubious Moniker.' By 2005 the pair began piecing together
material for a debut EP.
Having just founded
Tyranny Belle Records, O'Connell offered to record the debut
EP at his Outer Heaven Studios. Bamford enlisted the talents of friend and
drummer George Manolis, who had most recently played in Wake of Poseidon, and
Children's Masterpiece Theatre bassist Pete Walsh. O'Connell, Bamford, Manolis
and Walsh completed the EP
Life Intimidating Art and released it shortly
thereafter on Tyranny Belle Records.
Several months after the EP's release Dubious Moniker became a live act with the
addition of Peter Celauro on lead guitar and harmony vocals and CMT's Pete
Walsh on bass.
Most recently, Dubious Moniker performed packed shows at Tyranny Belle Records'
third label showcase, and the Chicago Tribune 'critic's pick' show at Double
Door with Nous Non Plus and Hello Stranger.
